To explain how Country Baking Company was created I feel like I need to tell you a little about what made me decide to follow my dream and start the company...
A couple of years ago, in late 2010, I suddenly found myself the single mom of a (fabulous) two year-old daughter when my marriage ended. I began to really challenge myself with new recipes and new methods through what some like to call ‘baking therapy’. I’d always loved to bake, since I was seven years old, when my dad, a nuclear engineer, scoffed when I asked him to buy me an 'Easy Bake Oven' and told me to go ahead and use the real oven at home. Yes, you read right, he said this to a seven-year old...but that's another subject altogether. So, I began baking at an early age but never tried to learn the science behind baking which, as I learned much more recently, made me a much better baker.
So, after having a thirteen-year career in Public Relations, I decided to follow my heart and start my baking business. I felt completely compelled to start Country Baking Company and put myself up to the challenge of making the best bake-at-home cookie dough ever. I would go to the store and buy cookie dough with fancy labels that claimed to be the best, and just knew I could make something much better than what was out there. I promised myself I would actually deliver a product that lived up to its claims. I experimented for months, mixing and baking batch after batch, and using only the best ingredients because let’s be honest- to make the best tasting cookies, they need to be made with the best ingredients. I wouldn’t sell a cookie that I wouldn’t want to devour myself or feed to my own daughter. I also wouldn’t try to sell a cookie that my extremely picky-eater of a daughter wouldn’t love. Only pure, natural, premium ingredients would go into my cookies.
I named my company in homage to one of my favorite movies, Baby Boom, starring Diane Keaton. I LOVE that movie, and it inspired me. In the movie Diane Keaton plays a suddenly single mom who leaves her corporate career behind and starts “Country Baby”, a premium line of baby food made with pure and natural ingredients.
To date (well, in the past year since we are only 14 months old!), Country Baking Company Cookie Dough is sold at 48 grocery stores in Northern California and has been served to over 30,000 Virgin America passengers. Yes, every day can be a challenge, but I love it and push forward knowing that I’m offering the best tasting, most wholesome cookie and cookie (dough) there is. If you don’t think so, please let me know…because I really do care what you think.
